Dustin Johnson has been absent from the professional golf tour for about 6 months and many people have wondered what his future will hold. It would appear that Dustin’s hiatus from golf gave him exactly what he needed. Some rest and relaxation have given the PGA star a much needed win in Doral Florida at Sunday’s Cadillac Championship
Facing off against J.B. Holmes, Johnson made up a 5 stroke deficit and managed to be 1 stroke ahead on the 18th hole. Johnson ended on an astounding note driving his ball well over the water hazard on the 18th hole, which set him up for an easy par.
Johnson was overjoyed to have won and was greeted by his fiancee Paulina Gretzky and their 7-week son. Johnson is quoted in saying “I knew I was really good,"I knew there was something I was missing that could make me great. I was working hard on that, and I think it's showing right now. I'm so excited right now, I can't hardly talk. It feels great. This one definitely, by far, is the best one."
This championship marks Dustin Johnson’s 9th career win in the PGA and his 2nd World Golf Championship title. The win also sets Johnson as the 7th ranked golfer in the world.
Returning to the professional golf spotlight after his surprising announcement last year he would be missing the final major and he Ryder Cup. The golfer faced personal challenges and sought out the help he needed. It would however appear that the young star hasn't lost his step and will prove to be a serious contender not only at the upcoming Masters tournament but is each preceding championship far down the road.
Good luck and congratulations to Dustin Johnson.
